Step 1: Initialising your calculator

To start setting your calculator to your default course settings, turn it on , then enter the following key sequences:

(CLR) (Setup) (Yes)

(SETUP) (Norm)

Be aware that in the second key sequence, "CLR" (which is an abbreviation for 'clear')') is the second function in the key and 'Setup' it's name for an menu option which corresponds to this number. 'Yes' is the name of the menu on the screen that corresponds to that keys. This keystroke clears any previously set-up settings in the calculator.

In the second key sequence "SETUP" is the name of the second purpose of the key, and 'Norm' (short for "normal") is the menu item that is associated with key 2. keyboard. When you press the key, it toggles the use of 'Normal 2' mode, which will be explained in greater detail in section 5.

It is important to note the distinction between 'SETUP', which is the second function of the key, and the menu option "Setup".

Your calculator will now function in 'Math' mode, and the word Math will be displayed near the right side of the high-end of the calculator display as shown in Figure 4. Mathematics mode is the recommended method of using your calculator during this course because it allows mathematics to be filled in and displayed in a similar manner to the way you write it down on paper.Figure 4 Math mode

1.1 Basic calculations

Fundamental calculations are input into the calculator in exactly the same manner as the calculations are written on paper, as illustrated in the following exercise. The calculator displays the calculation you typed in. When you press the button, the answer is displayed at the bottom right side of the screen.

It is possible that in the fourth part (4) in the previous activity this calculation was too long to be displayed on the calculator display. 1.3 Powers

There are many keypads on the calculator that permit users to carry out calculations which require powers. • "Stack Error"Stack Error" occurs when your calculation is too complex to be dealt with in the same go. In these circumstances, try to break the calculation into a series of simpler ones.

In these cases you will notice that the calculator will display the same screen as of the Syntax Error, allowing you to either abandon or change your calculation.
